The American Society for the History of Rhetoric seeks to “promote the study of the theory and practice of rhetoric in all periods and languages and its relationship with poetics, politics, religion, law, and other cultural influences.”
The organization hosts yearly conferences and publishes an annual journal, Advances in the History of Rhetoric. The scope of the publication includes rhetorical theory, rhetorical discourse, rhetorical criticism rhetorical instruction in writing and speaking relations of rhetoric with other disciplines or cultural institutions, processes, and events.
